Rush had 10 years of data that was logged and kept in multiple places. Unstructured data and structured information in modules (e.g. pathology reports and lab reports) were siloed in the system, making it difficult to integrate. They also had a large amount of unstructured data in electronic medical records (EMR), such as clinical notes.
Maven Wave led Rush’s migration to Google Cloud Platform and, together with Google Cloud, engineered a solution to map unstructured data in the medical center’s EMR system to structured insights (SNOMED codes). Applying natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (ML) and other technologies, this initiative helps to administer cancer screenings for at-risk patients for early detection, ensure all pre-surgical physicals are performed, enhance clinical documentation and more.
Maven Wave’s solution allows Rush to increase both internal and external collaboration. It also enables an intuitive user experience for note search and analysis, scalable compute to empower fast data science on a large number of notes, and a single source of truth (via a searchable repository for all processed structured and unstructured data). Additionally. the solution provides cost-effective storage for petabytes of data.
