Safeco Insurance, a member of Liberty Mutual Group, is a national U.S. insurance company providing insurance to drivers and homeowners through a network of independent agents and brokers throughout the United States.
Safeco was executing a critical program within the agency business to standardize the enterprise product portfolio and consolidate approximately 1.5 million policies to a single policy issuance and underwriting system. The pace of migration was lagging expectations, and the company required substantial efficiency improvements to meet objectives.
Maven Wave worked with stakeholders across multiple business units and disciplines to develop the core definition of the program, a long-term and near-term road map, as well as a conceptual architecture to provide a planning framework:
- Analyzed existing program processes to expose bottlenecks and other inefficiencies
- Identified root causes for critical issues, and recommend solutions to improve migration throughput and control overall spend
- Proposed a restructured Program Management function to streamline decision-making and accelerate future migration activities
- Developed an Integrated Program Plan to align business and IT activities and optimize utilization of a limited resource pool
The Integrated Program Plan incorporated a parallel release approach which reduced the overall program timeline by 30-40%. In addition, a pilot project was launched to perform standardized conversions across multiple states, projected to reduce IT development costs by as much as 60% on a per state basis.
