Maven Wave’s Director of Talent Acquisition, Amber Bouchard, was recently selected for a profile in Authority Magazine for its series on identifying and retaining great talent. As a continuously recognized “Great Place to Work”, it’s clear we have a purposeful method of finding employees with not only the skills, talent and expertise required for any given position, but also what we Mavens call the “X factor.”
From the moment a potential candidate first interacts with the Maven Wave brand, the recruiting process begins. As Bouchard explains in the interview, we keep the focus on creating a positive candidate experience. Our goal is to get candidates to test drive their potential new role. “We have interview exercises — case studies, presentations, whiteboarding — that allow candidates to gain a hands-on understanding of what they would be doing on a daily basis,” says Bouchard.
At Maven Wave, we also believe that workplace diversity is an integral part in the culture, creativity, and technological innovation of our company. We recognize that in order to retain great employees, we need to create a safe workplace where they feel a sense of belonging and acceptance. That’s why we have recently started to invest heavily in diversity and inclusion efforts. While our Talent Acquisition team focuses on recruiting diverse talent, our employees have also started subgroups within the company, including one focused on driving women into tech (WAM) and another focused on LBGTQ+ community (Wavelength).
The key to our “secret sauce” for finding the best talent and keeping it in-house is to examine and identify the qualities that make our current Mavens successful in their roles..We are then able to search for those qualities among our potential new hires.
Then, once our new Mavens are hired, we shift the focus to retaining that talent, starting with a great onboarding experience. Throughout their career at Maven Wave, all employees take part in our continuous performance coaching program for learning and development. Additionally, company culture is a top priority at Maven Wave, and we have regular company social events to foster connections between employees. “We want Mavens to interact outside company walls and build rapport so that the (sometimes long) hours are more bearable. If you enjoy the people you work with, it makes all the difference,” says Bouchard
At Maven Wave, we are constantly brainstorming on ways to be innovative with not just our tech, but also our recruiting processes, strategies, and overall candidate experience. Because at the end of the day, Maven Wave’s success, lies in the hands of its employees.
